Gum Disorders!!!

Jul 11, 2008

People who have been unwell, those who have a poor diet and anyone who does not observe scrupulous oral hygiene may be susceptible to gingivitis, which causes sore, swollen and bleeding gums. Ulcers are painful, raw lesions on the gums or elsewhere in the mouth.

A small white sore edged in red, acutely sensitive to acidic or salty foods. If symptoms persist for more than a week, see a doctor. Gum disease that does not clear up may indicate a more serious underlying condition.

Gingivitis is often caused by poor dental hygiene; other causes include hormonal imbalances, some prescription drugs, or conditions such as diabetes, epilepsy, anaemia and leukaemia. It is difficult to determine the cause of most mouth ulcers although they seem to occur more often when a person is run down. Possible triggers include minor injuries, a reaction to streptococcus bacteria or allergies.
