Common acne myth

Nov 19, 2008

A very common acne myth is that chocolate will cause acne to develop because it is unhealthy and loaded with sugar. While there is some truth to this myth, it is only likely for an individual to develop acne from eating chocolate if they are allergic to any of the ingredients in the product, are unhealthy and overweight, eat large amounts of chocolate, and/or do not use an acne treatment or acne cream. This can help people who might have a skin sensitivity to chocolate prevent acne from forming and keep their skin looking smooth.

It is not necessary to stop eating chocolate all together. Many people will not have any acne related problems from chocolate if they limit their intake and maintain a healthy weight while exercising. It is also important to note that there are many different types of chocolate, each with different effects on the skin. Dark is known as the healthiest and is the least likely to cause any negative health side effects if eaten in moderation.
